Renting a Porta Potty for a Backyard Party in Hastings

For a backyard party of about 50 guests lasting 4 hours or less, one standard porta potty is usually enough, even if your house has a bathroom. We drop it off Thursday or Friday and pick it up Monday, so it is ready before your first guest shows up.

Do I need a porta potty if my house has a bathroom?

A house bathroom can serve a small family dinner, but a party of 50 guests over 4 hours is a different load. The common event planning chart lists 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests. One porta potty in the yard keeps the bathroom line short and keeps guests out of your house.

Think about the traffic. Every trip inside means shoes on your floors, doors opening and kids running through the kitchen.

A home on a septic tank is another reason. A big group can put a lot of extra water into a small system in one afternoon.

Many hosts keep the house bathroom for family and older guests. Everyone else uses the portable toilet outside.

A porta potty also helps when the party runs into the evening. Guests at a bonfire or yard game do not have to walk through a dark house to find a bathroom.

How many porta potties does a backyard party need?

For 50 guests and 4 hours or less, plan on 1 standard porta potty. For 100 guests, plan on 2 units up to 4 hours or 3 units for 4 to 8 hours. When beer or other alcohol is served, add 1 more unit for every 4 units, rounding up.

If your guest count falls between rows, use the bigger row. Our full chart on the how many porta potties page goes up to 500 guests.

Example: a graduation open house with 80 guests from 1 to 5 p.m. rounds up to the 100-guest row. That means 2 units. If you serve beer, that becomes 3 units.

Where should the porta potty go in my yard?

Put the porta potty on a firm, fairly level spot about 4 feet by 4 feet. The spot should be within about 10 feet of where our truck can stop, like the end of a driveway or a side yard. Keep the door facing away from the food table.

A spot that is easy to see but not in the middle of the party works best. Guests find it without asking, and nobody eats next to it.

If the unit has to go through a gate, measure first. The standard unit is about 43.5 inches wide, so a 48-inch gate is the smallest that works.

Mark the spot with a cone, flag or stake before we arrive. Our porta potty placement guide covers slopes, septic fields and soft lawns.

When does the porta potty arrive and leave?

For a Saturday party, the porta potty arrives Thursday or Friday and leaves Monday, at no extra charge. Deliveries run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the driver texts or calls when on the way. We do not deliver or pick up on Sunday.

You pay one flat rate for that whole window. Nobody is charged extra for the days before or after the party.

Early drop-off means you are not watching the street on party morning. You can read more in why weekend rentals arrive early.

Do I need a hand-wash station for a party with food?

Each standard porta potty comes stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The event planning chart adds 1 hand-wash station for every 4 units when food is served. For a cookout with kids, a 2-sink station with soap, paper towels and about 18 gallons of water is a smart add.

Sanitizer works for adults on the go. Kids with sticky hands and ketchup on their fingers do better with soap and water.

A portable hand-wash station needs no hose or power. Set it right next to the porta potty so people use it on the way out.

How far ahead should I book a porta potty for a graduation party?

For a Saturday from May through September, book about 1 week ahead. Graduation season puts many Hastings parties on the same few weekends. You can cancel free up to 48 hours before delivery, so booking early carries little risk if your plans change.

Have your address, party date, guest count and party hours ready when you call. That is enough for a full, itemized quote.

Need a wider unit for a guest who uses a wheelchair? Ask about our wheelchair-accessible porta potty. It has a ground-level floor and room to turn around inside.

Quick answers

Will a porta potty smell at my party?

A clean unit with a fresh deodorizer charge should not smell bad over a weekend. Placing it in partial shade and away from the food table also helps. Keep the lid closed and the vent stack clear.

Can I put the porta potty on my driveway?

A driveway is one of the easiest spots. Concrete is firm and level, and our truck can reach it. Just leave room to park cars and keep the door facing the yard.

Do I need to be home when the porta potty is delivered?

You do not need to wait outside if the spot is clearly marked with a cone, flag or note. The driver texts or calls when on the way, so leave a phone number that someone will answer.

What comes inside a party porta potty?

A standard unit has a seat, a urinal, toilet paper, hand sanitizer and a vent stack. It arrives clean and stocked, so a 1 to 3 day party needs no mid-event service.
