How many porta potties do I need for my party or event?

Plan about 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for an event up to 4 hours. A 150-guest graduation party lasting 4 to 8 hours needs about 4 units. Longer events, alcohol and food all raise the count, and the chart below is a planning guide, not a legal rule.

This is a common industry chart for standard units. Church picnics, birthday parties, reunions and graduations all fit the same math. Find your guest count, then read across to your event length.

A house or church restroom helps, but a single indoor toilet backs up fast. Count the indoor restroom as part of the plan, not all of it. The full porta potty sizing guide covers odd guest counts.

How many extra porta potties do I need if alcohol is served?

Add 1 porta potty for every 4 units on the chart when alcohol is served, and round up. A 200-guest event of 4 to 8 hours needs 5 units on the chart. With beer or a bar, 5 divided by 4 rounds up to 2 extra, so plan 7 units.

Guests who drink use the restroom more often, and lines grow late in the night. Food adds a second rule: plan 1 hand-wash station for every 4 units.

  • 100 guests, 4 hours, beer served: 2 units on the chart, plus 1 extra = 3 units.
  • 250 guests, 6 hours, dinner and a bar: 6 units, plus 2 extra = 8 units, plus 2 hand-wash stations.
  • 300 guests, all day, food trucks: 9 units and 3 hand-wash stations.

Each 2-sink hand-wash station has foot pumps, soap and paper towels.

Do I need a wheelchair-accessible porta potty at my event?

The 2010 ADA Standards, section 213.2, say at least 5 percent of clustered portable units, and no fewer than 1 per cluster, must be accessible. A cluster of 12 units needs at least 1 accessible unit, and a cluster of 25 units needs 2. Our recommendation: rent at least 1 at every event.

The legal rule sets the floor. Our recommendation is at least 1 wheelchair-accessible porta potty, even at a 40-person backyard party. Older guests, parents with strollers and anyone on crutches use it too.

  • Ground-level floor with no step, a wide door and grab bars.
  • A 60-inch turning space inside.
  • About 62 inches wide, so the drop spot needs a wide, flat path.

Read the standards on the U.S. Access Board ADA page. Rules for public events can vary, so confirm the count with your city permit office or venue.

When do you drop off and pick up for a Saturday event?

Saturday event units drop off Thursday or Friday and get picked up Monday at no extra charge. Delivery runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the driver texts or calls when on the way. Sunday delivery and pickup are not offered, but Saturday drop-off works on request when a route is open.

The weekend price covers the whole window from drop-off to Monday pickup. A 4-hour birthday party and a 3-day reunion pay the same flat rate.

Mark the spot with a cone, flag or stake before the driver arrives. The unit needs firm, fairly level ground within about 10 feet of where the truck stops. Some city parks do not allow units overnight, so check your park permit before you pick dates.

For May through September Saturdays, book about 1 week ahead.

Do porta potties get cleaned during a festival or county fair?

Event units for 1 to 3 days arrive clean and fully stocked, with no mid-event service needed. Fairs, festivals and tournaments that run longer get daily or every-other-day service, quoted ahead. July and August heat raises use and odor, so big summer events need service more often.

A multi-day event quote lists each service visit. Each visit pumps the tank, cleans the seat and floor, and restocks paper and sanitizer.

August is a busy month in Hastings. Kool-Aid Days fills the Adams County Fairgrounds, county fair season runs across the area, and the Nebraska State Fair runs late August into September at Fonner Park in Grand Island. Book August weekends well ahead of the usual 1-week lead time.

Events questions

I only need it for 4 hours on Saturday. Is there a cheaper short rental?

Event units rent at one flat weekend rate from drop-off to pickup. A 4-hour party and a 3-day reunion pay the same for a standard unit, from $175 inside Hastings. There is no hourly or daily rate.

We have a bathroom in the church. Do we still need a porta potty?

One indoor restroom helps, but a single toilet backs up fast with a crowd. For 100 guests over 4 hours, the chart calls for 2 units. Count the church restroom as 1 and rent at least 1 more.

Can you deliver to a park shelter with no street address?

Send a GPS pin or clear directions, such as the shelter name and which parking lot to use. Put a cone or flag where the unit goes. Check the park permit first, since some parks do not allow overnight units.

Can I add a hand-wash station for the food table?

A 2-sink hand-wash station starts at $125 per event. Plan 1 station for every 4 units when food is served. Each station holds about 18 gallons of fresh water with foot pumps, soap and paper towels.

How far ahead should I book for a graduation party?

Book about 1 week ahead for any May–September Saturday. Many graduation parties land on the same May weekends, so more lead time helps. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before delivery.

Is that price out the door, or are there extra fees?

The free quote is itemized: unit price, rental window, delivery and pickup, any trip fee, any rush fee and tax. The quoted total is what you pay. Inside Hastings city limits, delivery and pickup are part of the $175 starting price.
